School Trip to Chengdu

No PreeChina student group has travelled to Chengdu yet. It is one of the cities the programme names for routes beyond the three-city sample, and it carries the strongest single unit in the curriculum table for a geography or environmental course: the Dujiangyan waterworks, about sixty kilometres north-west of the city.

Water management without a dam

Unit U2 on the curriculum page uses Dujiangyan, an irrigation system with no dam, which has watered the Chengdu plain for more than two thousand two hundred years. Students measure how the flow divides, draw the water path, and argue it against a modern dam. The unit connects to IB DP Environmental Systems and Societies (water), IB DP Geography and AP Environmental Science. The unit page sets out the tasks and the evidence to bring home.

Giant pandas near the city

Chengdu is where giant pandas are the main reason groups visit. The PreeChina pandas theme page maps the places across China where pandas can be seen, and the giant panda trip from Chengdu route shows how a panda visit fits a day. In Beijing and Shanghai the 2026 and 2027 routes use city zoos for the same purpose.
