How Much Does a School Trip to China Cost?

A school trip to China costs two things: PreeChina's service fee, which is set by the length of the trip and listed on this page, and the suppliers' own prices for hotels, meals, transport and attractions, which depend on the route, the season and the group. Both are listed line by line in a priced itinerary before anything is booked.

One service fee per person, set by the length of the trip

PreeChina charges a per-person service fee for groups of 10 or more travellers, with 10 included. It is one clear line in the priced itinerary, and it is the same for a school trip, a study tour or a camp.

Accommodation, meals, transportation, tickets and other trip expenses are separate unless the agreed quotation says otherwise.

Groups of fewer than ten

Groups of two to nine are quoted as a project: a project fee plus the actual costs, with no figure published. Send the details through the proposal request.

What the service fee pays for

  • Journey design. The route is drawn with the school around the course, the ages and the pace, then checked and priced.
  • Reservations. PreeChina coordinates the hotels, the group bookings at venues and the transport between cities.
  • On the ground. For eligible groups, an English-speaking tour leader and local coordination support from arrival pickup to departure drop-off, according to the agreed service scope.
  • Local resources. Hotels, restaurants, attractions and coach drivers are chosen for the group, not from a fixed list of partners, and PreeChina helps secure suitable supplier discounts where they are available.

The How We Work page sets out the same terms for student, business and other group tours.

What the suppliers charge

Everything else in the budget is a supplier cost. Each one is its own line in the priced itinerary, with the supplier named and the price the supplier charges.

PreeChina replies to a brief with a draft route, the per-person service fee and an estimate of the hotel, meal and transport costs. The exact figures come in the priced itinerary, once the arrival flight and the checks are settled.

Where a group can save, and how far

PreeChina holds trade rates with long-standing partners that individual travellers and one-off groups do not receive. Typical ranges are USD 10 to 40 less per room per night in hotels, 10% to 20% off in city restaurants, 5% to 30% off attractions and activities depending on the season and the site, and USD 50 to 100 a day below a rental company or an agency for a 50-seat coach.

Worked at figures near the low end of each range, a student group of 36 over seven days and six nights saved about USD 3,338 in total, or about USD 93 a traveller. At the middle of each range the same group saves about USD 150 a traveller. For a seven-day trip the low-end case sits just under the USD 100 fee and the middle case sits above it. Any savings depend on the itinerary, supplier availability, group size and confirmed rates, and are not guaranteed.

The cost and savings page shows the working line by line.

What is not part of the price

  • International flights, which stay with the school or the agency.
  • Travel insurance.
  • Personal spending and shopping. No shopping stop is built in to generate commissions.
  • Upgrades above the agreed specification, such as a higher hotel category, a different class of rail seat or an extra banquet.

How payment works

  • Deposit. 30% of the service fee holds the dates.
  • Balance. The remaining 70% of the fee is paid within two days after arrival in China.
  • Advance bookings. Items that must be booked in advance, such as rail seats or a venue, are paid in advance for the amount actually booked.

PreeChina helps coordinate practical payment options with relevant suppliers, including bank transfers and other agreed payment methods where available. Payment arrangements, responsibilities and applicable charges are clarified before bookings are confirmed. All transactions are subject to supplier acceptance, applicable laws and relevant payment requirements. The booking and payment page lists deposits, currencies and refunds.
