Questions Teachers Ask Before Planning a China Student Group Tour

Short answers for teachers, group leaders and agencies. Where an answer depends on a particular group, it says so.

Questions and answers

What ages have the groups been?

The groups PreeChina has hosted so far were aged 8 to 16. Younger and older groups can be planned, and the pace and the tasks are set to the age group named in the proposal request.

How large have the groups been?

The same school brought 20 participants in 2025 and 36 in 2026, and 60 are booked for 2027. A group of sixty travels in two coaches, and some sessions run as two sittings of thirty.

How long is a typical trip?

Six to seven days so far. The sample itinerary is seven days across Shanghai, Hangzhou and Beijing, and the first trip was seven days based in Shanghai. Longer and shorter routes can be drawn.

Are lessons part of the trip?

Yes. The sample programme has a class session in the hotel on arrival day and another on the fullest day, and a session on a university campus. The sessions follow a course the school names.

Can the programme follow a curriculum?

It can be planned around IB, AP and A-Level courses. The curriculum page sets out eight learning units and the courses they connect to, and the school's coordinator confirms each fit against the current syllabus.

What happens when plans change on the day?

Over the early seasons the group met a traffic jam, rain on a boat ride and a restaurant that could not seat everyone. The safety page lists seven situations from those trips and says each was resolved without anyone coming to harm.

What does a group of sixty look like on the ground?

Two coaches stay with the group all week. Venues take the group as a booking, rooms are requested on one floor, and sessions such as a tea masterclass run as two sittings of thirty.

How is the programme priced?

Student group tours are charged as a ground service fee per person, about USD 100 to 150 and a little more for longer programmes. The fee covers the English-speaking guides, the ground service and PreeChina's coordination of hotels, transport and meals. Hotels, meals, transport and attraction tickets are paid separately, by the group directly or through PreeChina, which can also pay suppliers on the group's behalf with no handling fee. International flights, travel insurance, personal shopping and upgrades are not included. The For Agencies page has the fee table.

Can an overseas agency use PreeChina as its ground operator in China?

Yes. PreeChina acts as the ground travel agency from airport pickup to airport drop-off, designs the itinerary together with the agency, books hotels, venues and transport inside China, and provides English-speaking guides. The For Agencies page sets out the split of roles, the ground fee and the payment terms.

What does PreeChina need to start?

The dates, the group size, the ages, the number of adults, the arrival city and flight, any dietary needs, and the course or the interests the trip should support.

How does the time difference affect the first days?

A long flight and a time difference of several hours mean a group is slow in the morning and fine in the evening for the first days. The first day leaves room for rest, and the first class session is held in the hotel.

Does PreeChina run study abroad, exchange or long-term language courses?

No. PreeChina plans group trips only: school trips, educational tours, study tours and camps. It does not enrol students in Chinese schools. Students travel with their school and go home together.

What is a student group tour called in other countries?

Schools in the United Kingdom say school trip, in the United States educational tour, in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Australia and India study tour, and agencies say student group travel. PreeChina treats all of them as the same kind of trip.
