Sanxingdui and What Lies Within Reach

The centre of the ancient Shu civilization, dating to about the Shang period. In 1986 two pits yielded a bronze mask with protruding eyes, a bronze standing figure more than 2.6 metres tall, a gold staff and a bronze sacred tree. Their style stands apart from the Shang culture of the Central Plains. From 2020 to 2022 archaeologists cleared six more pits and found gold masks and a bronze altar.
