Pandas Without Going to Sichuan

Giant pandas are on public view in 51 Chinese cities, not only in Sichuan. Beijing, Xi'an and Shanghai each have venues, so a group on the classic China route can see pandas without a separate trip to Chengdu.

This route adds one or two panda venues to each stop of a classic itinerary. Beijing pairs with the Mutianyu Great Wall, Xi'an with the Terracotta Army, and Shanghai with the Zhujiajiao water town. See the Giant pandas theme map for the full list.

Panda houses can close for renovation and animals move between venues, so PreeChina confirms what is on view before you travel.

FAQ

Can I see giant pandas outside Sichuan?

Yes. 60 venues in 51 Chinese cities keep giant pandas on public view, including Beijing, Xi'an and Shanghai.

How many days does this route need?

We plan it as 6 days across three cities. Your private itinerary sets the pace and the order with you.

Is this better than a Chengdu trip?

Chengdu has the larger bases and most of the pandas on record. This route suits groups that want pandas as part of a classic itinerary. A group can also join the two: see the Chengdu panda trip.

Who is this route not a good fit for?

Anyone who can spare only one day. The route is planned over 6 days with 5 nights on the road, and it does not shrink well.
