Dandong is the one place in China where the Yalu River border is easy to see. A riverfront promenade faces the North Korean town of Sinuiju, and boat tours run along the Chinese bank. The Sino-Korean Friendship Bridge stands beside the broken Yalu River Bridge, damaged in the Korean War.
The history is concentrated here. The Korean War Memorial Museum covers the conflict from the Chinese side, and the nearby bridge and riverside sites mark where Chinese forces crossed in 1950. It is a serious subject, and visitors should expect a Chinese-language narrative with limited English.
