Why Go
A Boat Ride Into a Mountain
1. The cave mouth
The entrance is a broad arch of pale limestone, with large red characters carved above it that name the cave. Boats set off from a landing at the mouth, and the opening is wide enough that the opening stretch of the ride is in daylight.
From there the river passes into the dark, and the route follows the stream through chambers in the rock.
2. Lit chambers
Coloured lights illuminate the walls and the formations hanging from the roof in the deeper chambers, and the water reflects them. The boats keep to a fixed channel, with rails and floats along the banks.
It is a short experience, but the setting suits a break from city sights, and the cave stays cool when the weather outside is hot.
