Badachu Park (八大处公园)Eight temples on the western hills, all of them still standing, from Chang’an Temple at the foot to Zhengguo at the top. Lingguang Temple keeps a tooth relic in its pagoda. Historic garden or scenic site 6:00 to 18:30
Chaoyang Park (朝阳公园)Recorded as the largest park inside the fourth ring road, 289 hectares with 68 of water. Opened in 1984; tulips in spring, and a beach area and adventure ground for children. City park Open at all hours
Olympic Forest Park (奥林匹克森林公园(奥森))Six hundred and eighty hectares at the north end of the central axis, built for 2008 and kept as a park. An artificial lake, a hill raised from excavated earth, and a ten-kilometre running loop in the south half. City park Open at all hours
Summer Palace (颐和园)UNESCO CULTURALAn imperial garden built around Kunming Lake and Longevity Hill and modelled on West Lake at Hangzhou. Busiest of all Beijing parks: 788,000 visits over the 2026 May holiday. Historic garden or scenic site 6:30 to 18:00 (旺季)
Temple of Heaven (天坛公园)UNESCO CULTURALMing and Qing emperors came here for the annual harvest sacrifice. It also works as a city park: the cypress groves fill with people exercising in the morning, and the halls stand on a single axis to the north. Historic garden or scenic site 6:00 to 22:00 (旺季)
Wenyu River Park (温榆河公园)About 30 square kilometres along the river on Beijing’s northeast edge, with over a hundred entrances. Forest, wetland, terraced field and lake in one, and a small train through the Chaoyang section. Country park Open at all hours
Xiangshan Park (香山公园)The Qing imperial garden called Jingyi, on a hill of 575 m. Known for maple colour between mid-October and early November, when it is very crowded. Biyun Temple stands inside the grounds. Historic garden or scenic site 6:00 to 18:30 (旺季)

Badaling Great Wall (八达岭长城)UNESCO CULTURALThe best-preserved stretch of Ming wall and the one most visitors see. World Heritage since 1987. Steep enough in places that the steps are uneven by design, and crowded from mid-morning. Historic garden or scenic site 7:30 to 17:30 (旺季)
Beihai Park (北海公园)Counted among the oldest imperial gardens still standing, begun under the Liao in 1166 and extended by four later dynasties. Sixty-nine hectares, more than half of it water, laid out on the one-pool-three-hills model of the immortals isles. Historic garden or scenic site 6:30 to 21:00 (旺季)
Jingshan Park (景山公园)UNESCO CULTURALThe hill of spoil from digging the palace moat, 88 m and the high point of the central axis. From the Wanchun pavilion the Forbidden City lies below in full; the Chongzhen emperor hanged himself on this slope in 1644. City park 6:30 to 21:00 (旺季)
Universal Beijing Resort (北京环球度假区)The third Universal park in Asia, opened in September 2021 on four square kilometres east of the city and reached by its own metro line. Theme park 8:30 to 22:00
Zhongshan Park (中山公园)The Ming and Qing altar of soil and grain, opened as Beijing’s first public park in 1914 and renamed for Sun Yat-sen in 1928, after his coffin had lain in the hall here. Historic garden or scenic site 6:00 to 20:00

Which Ones Need a Whole Day
